Blocks 1,4,5,6,8,9: Word Snapshot project due May 16, 2012. This was assigned on Thursday May 10, 2012. Be sure to include an explaination on the back of your poster and a color code.
Homework: Week of 5/7-5/
All my ELA classes will have DCAS testing sometime during this week. Block 8/9 and 5/6 tested on May 7th. Block 1&4 will test on May 9th and Block 7 will be testing on May 10th. Please make sure your student gets enough rest and eats a healthy breakfast on the testing morning. I am please to see many of the students that tested today increase their scores and I had a lot of 3 and 4. That is wonderful news, I am so PROUD of these students.
Students should continue to read nightly for at least 20 minutes. Reading Logs will be collected on Friday, May 11th.
Homework: Week of 4/16-4/20
Welcome Back! I hope you had a relaxing Spring Break. We are finishing up our propaganda/persuasive writing unit. Many classes are getting into the computer labs to type their Research Projects this week.
All ELA classes: New Reading Logs were given out today! Please make sure your child is reading for at least 20 minutes each night. Also be sure to sign or initial each night that your child does read. Reading Logs will be collected on May 11th for all classes except for Block 7, I will collect theirs on Monday, May 14th.
Homework: Week of 4/2-4/5
All ELA classes: We have started our short unit on persuasion and propaganda. The homework for Tuesday night, April 3rd is to get an advertisement and bring it in. During class we are going to identify what type of propaganda the advertisers used.
Reading Logs will be handed out AFTER Spring Break.
Research projects: We will begin writing our research projects in class after Spring Break. Be sure you are doing research if you have internet available. Make sure you use reliable sources such as: .edu, .gov. and .org. You can also use udlibsearch at home or your public library, just follow the directions on the handout that I gave out during our time in the library.

Blocks 1,4,5,6,8,9: Reading Logs are due Thursday, March 22. Please be sure that your signature is on your child's reading log.
Block 7: Reading Logs are due Friday, March 23. Please be sure that your initials or signature is on your child's reading log.
All Classes: Binder Check on Friday, March 23rd. I will collect the 3rd marking period Table of Contents on Friday, March 23rd as well.

All ELA Classes: Reading Log is due March 22, 2012. Please be sure that your child/student is reading for at least 20 minutes per night.
Research projects: We are beginning to learn about research and how to conduct research in the library. All students will complete a one page (typed)research paper. Most of this project will be done in class, however some students may need to use their own time for more research. We are going to the school library this Thursday, March 15th to begin the process. Our research question is: How does society view children with disabilities now versus at the time of Helen Keller (1800's). Students are going to look at the society, schooling and technology for disabled children.
Homework: Week of 2/21-2/24
All ELA classes:Reading Logs were handed out today (2/21/12). They will be collected on March 22nd. Please be sure your student is reading 20 minutes Monday through Thursday.
Binder Check will be completed on Friday, February 24th in each class.
Blocks 1, 4, 5, 6, 8, 9: Our Final Test on THE GIVER will be given March 2, 2012. You may use your study guides on the test but NO books. Please bring your book to class that day so that I may collect them.
: Week of 2/14-2/24
All ELA Classes: Binder check will be completed on 2/24/12. Please be sure you have 3 writing utensils and that your ELA section is organized neatly.
New Reading Logs will be given out on 2/21. Many students DID NOT complete or turn in the last Reading Log that was collected on 2/10/12. Please be sure your child is reading nightly Monday- Thursday for at least 20 minutes. Also, please be sure that you initial or sign the reading log.
Homework: Week of 2/6-2/10
All ELA Classes: Reading logs will be collected this Friday, February 10th. Wednesday is Shue Writing day. During each ELA class students will be given a writing prompt to answer. The top writer will win a prize. The writing prompt will also be an ELA grade. Remember to use the writing process to complete this writing prompt. I know you will do your best!
Book Fair is taking place this week. Block 9,5,7 will attend on Thursday, February 9th and Block 4 will attend on Friday, February 10th.
Parents, it is portfolio conference time again. Wednesday, February 15th from 3-8pm. I hope to see a lot of you there!
