Week of May 14 - May 18:

Monday, May 14

7th Grade - Test on The Outsiders chapters 7 & 8 vocabulary this Friday.  Study the 10 words (Frayer models).

Wednesday, May 16

All 7th grade groups - Your test on The Outsiders chapters 7 & 8 vocabulary will be this Friday. Study the 10 words (Frayer models).

Session 1 - In addition to the test this Friday, you are to complete the sentences begun in class today for each of the 10 vocabulary words.  Also, complete the sheet handed out in class today for The Outsiders - Dynamic Characters.  If you were on the field trip today, you are to write the sentences and see me for the handout.  There will be a final test on The Outsiders next week.  The date is tentatively set for next Tuesday but it will be confirmed when I see your group on Friday.  Return your copy of The Outsiders next week on the date of the test.

Session 4 - Many of you still have your copy of The True Confessions of Charlotte Doyle that need to be returned.  Please return yours ASAP.

Week of May 7 - May 11:

This week begins DCAS testing for Reading.  Sessions 4/5 & 1 will test tomorrow in room 111.  Sessions 6/7 & 8/9 will test this Thursday, May 10 in room 209.  Because of DCAS testing and the impact it has on the daily schedule, there will be no homework assignments this week through next Wed. 

However, all 7th grade groups need to study/learn the 10 vocabulary words from The Outsiders chapters 7 & 8 (the Frayer models set up last week).  You also need to study the 12 poetry terms taken as Cornell Notes today in class (sessions 6/7 & 8/9).  Session 1 will take the Cornell Notes later this week.

 

Week of April 30 - May 4:

Friday, May 4:

Session 1

You will have DCAS reading on Tuesday.  Please report directly to room 111.  Be sure to bring The Outsiders novel with you.  Also, bring your Story Boards -- you should have completed through chap. 10 by Tues.  -- and bring the chapter 5-6 packet that I collected today, if you did not already turn it in.  All missing work should also be turned in on Tuesday.

For Thursday's class - report to the classroom.  Be sure to have finished reading The Outsiders.  You are to bring your 2 paragraph (or more) evaluation of The Outsiders and your 1 paragraph writing piece in which you discuss what you believe is the theme of the novel.  Be sure to include evidence from the text to support your answer.  Also, bring your Frayer models for words from chapters 7 & 8 to class, along with any other work from The Outsiders that you have not turned in.

All 7th grade groups -

Study/learn the 10 vocabulary words from chap. 7 & 8 (the words for which you created Frayer models this week.  You will have a test next Thursday.

Tuesday, May 1 -

Session 4/5 - Study/learn poetry terms for test this Thursday.

Session 1 - Finish The Outsiders by the next time we meet for class, Thursday, May 10. 

You will go to the computer lab -- room 120 -- this Wed. and Fri. for computer literacy.  Then, next Tuesday your group will take the DCAS test in room 111.  Report directly to the computer rooms on these dates.

Week of April 23-27:

Thursday, April 26 -

Session 1 - Review chap. 3-7 of The Outsiders for a test next Wednesday, May 2.  Also, update/complete your storyboards through chapter 7.

Session 4/5 - Study the words on the Poetry Terms To Learn handout distributed in class yesterday.

Wednesday, April 25 - Study the poetry terms to learn for a test next Thurs., May 3.

Monday, April 23 -

Session 1 -

1. Complete the two packets you were given in class today - the setting and mood packet for chapter 3-4 and the packet for chapters 5-6.

2. Read chapter 7 in The Outsiders. Come to class on Thursday prepared to discuss this chapter. 

All 7th grade groups:  Update your story board for The Outsiders, up through the last chapter your group read - sessions 6/7 and 8/9 through chapter 4; session 1 through chapter 7.

Session 4/5 (8th grade) -

Be sure your Frayer models for "The Tell-Tale Heart" and "The Hitchhiker" are complete.  Turn in on Wednesday.

 

Week of April 16-20:

Welcome back from Spring Break!!

Monday, April 16 -

No homework today!

Session 1 - Bring in your story boards for chapters 1-3 of The Outsiders.  Be sure you have read through chapter 3.  Come prepared to discuss what you have read so far.  If you missed Thursday's test (April 5), be sure to set up a make up date with me tomorrow.

 

Week of April 2 - April 5:

Monday, April 2

No homework - all E.L.A. classes

Session 1 - You should have read chap. 1 & 2 in The Outsiders and completed your storyboards for chapters 1 & 2 (assigned last class).  Come to class tomorrow prepared to discuss these chapters, and be sure to bring your completed storyboards. 

8th grade (session 4/5) will have no homework assignments this week, due to the field trip to Williamsburg.

Tuesday, April 3 -

All 7th grade groups will have a quiz on chapters 1 & 2 of The Outsiders this Thursday, April 5.  Be sure to know the characters, plot and major conflict.

Wednesday, April 4 -

Same assignment as yesterday, April 3.

 

Week of March 26-March 30:

Tuesday, March 27 -

Session 1 - Complete the graphic organizer set up in class yesterday in which you are to answer the question: Why is the title appropriate for the story "The Noble Experiment?" Be sure to cite relevant evidence from the text. Include quotation marks and page numbers where your information was found.

All other groups have no homework today. 

7th grade groups will begin reading The Outsiders tomorrow.

8th graders (session 4/5) will start reading "The Monkey's Paw" tomorrow.  They will write a compare/contrast paper explaining the differences between the two stories.

Monday, March 26 -

All 7th grade groups will start reading the S.E. Hinton novel The Outsiders this week.

8th grade is reading short stories from the Language of Literature anthology.  We are currently finishing the story "The Third Wish" and will begin "The Monkey's Paw" tomorrow or Wednesday.

Week of March 19-23:

Monday, March 19

7th grade classes - Study/learn 10 Words to Know for the autobiography "The Noble Experiment."

Session 4 - Test on fragments and run-on sentences tomorrow.

 

Tuesday, March 20 -

7th grade classes - Test on "The Noble Experiment" on Friday.  Learn the 10 Words to Know and know the characteristics of an autobiography.  Turn in all papers for "The Noble Experiment" on the day of your test. 

Session 1 - Your test on "The Noble Experiment" will be this Thursday, March 22.

Session 4 -

No homework tonight.

Week of March 12 - 16:

Wednesday, March 14 - Same homework as Tuesday, March 13.

Tuesday, March 13 -

Session 1 -

1. Answer the questions at the end of "The Noble Experiment" - #1 and #3-6.  Be sure to answer in complete sentences.

All 7th grade groups - Test Thursday on fragments and run-on sentences.  Be sure you can define sentence, fragment and run-ons, that you know how to correct run-ons and fragments, and that you can identify each.

Monday, March 12 -

Session 1 - Read "The Noble Experiment" (p. 189) in the Language of Literature textbook and write a summary of what you read.

Session 4 - We are in the library again tomorrow, typing the research paper.  If you have not completed any of your paragraphs, complete them tonight and bring them with you to type tomorrow.

Sessions 6/7 & 8/9 -

You will have a quiz on fragments and run-on sentences this Thursday, March 15.  Be sure to review the handout you were given last Friday for homework.

Week of March 5 - 9:

No change from Wed., March 7th assignments (for all groups).

Wed., March 7

Session 1 -

1.  Complete Frayer models for the 10 vocabulary words from "The Noble Experiment" (p. 290) in the Language of Literature textbook.  Bring to class on Friday.

2.  If you have not already presented your persuasive speech, be prepared to present it to your class on Friday.

Session 4 -

If you have not already presented your Charlotte Doyle project, be prepared to do so tomorrow.  Presentations will continue on Friday if not completed tomorrow.

Sessions 6/7 & 8/9 -

1. Study for Friday's test on Greek and Latin roots.

2. If you have not already presented your persuasive speech, be prepared to do so tomorrow or Friday.

 

Monday, March 5

Session 4/5 - Charlotte Doyle mobile project is due tomorrow, Tuesday, March 6.  Be prepared to present your project to the class.

Session 1 -

1. Complete Run-Ons/Fragments handout. 

2. Be prepared to give your persuasive presentation on Wed., if you have not already done so.

Sessions 6/7 & 8/9 -

1. Study Latin and Greek root words for test this Friday, March 9.

2. Finish persuasive presentations on Tuesday. 

 

 

Week of Feb. 27 - March 2:

For Monday, March 5 - All 7th grade groups, be prepared to give your persuasive speech to the class. 

This is a reminder to sessions 4/5 that your Charlotte Doyle mobile project is due on Tuesday, March 6.

 

Monday, Feb. 27 -

All 7th grade sessions - Prepare to present your persuasive speeches to your class beginning this Wed., Feb. 29. 

Session 1 - Your presentations will begin on Thursday.  Also, the quiz on Latin and Greek root words will be Thursday, before the presentations.

8th grade (Session 4/5) - Your Charlotte Doyle mobile projects are due this Friday, March 2.  Bring the completed project to class and be ready to present it to your classmates.  Also, once you have presented, turn in your Charlotte Doyle books (so that you can prevent an unmet obligation).

2.  Complete the Greek root words handout that we started in class today.  Learn the 8 root words for a quiz next Friday.  (You will be given another sheet on Latin roots tomorrow.  These 8 roots will also be on next Friday's quiz.)

Session 4/5 -

The due date for your Charlotte Doyle mobile project has been moved to next Tuesday, March 6.  Be sure to work on yours.  Make it original and creative.  Be prepared to present your project to the class on Tuesday.

Session 4/5 - Complete questions for Charlotte Doyle chap. 21.

All 7th grade groups - Black History ABCs assignment is due Thurs. (Fri. for session 1)

Rehearse persuasive speech.  Presentations will be next week - Mon. and Tues.

Wed., Feb. 22

Session 1 - Study/learn Greek and Latin roots (from 2 skillsheets - lessons 13 & 14).  Quiz next Tues., Feb. 28. Black History assignments is due Friday.  We will go to the library on Friday to get facts for your persuasive speech.

Session 4/5 -

1.  Test on Part 2 of Charlotte Doyle Friday.  Be sure to bring book to class.

2.  Begin working on your Charlotte Doyle mobile/oral presentation project which is due next Friday, March 2.

Thurs., Feb. 23

All 7th grade groups - Practice oral presentation of your persuasive speech.

Session 1 - Black History assignment is due tomorrow.

Session 4/5 -

1. Test tomorrow on Charlotte Doyle. 

2.  Complete questions for chap. 22.

3.  Complete the figurative language skillsheet on similes and metaphors.  Bring completed sheet to class tomorrow.
