PARENT MUSIC ASSOCIATION - FAQs

PMA

What is the PMA?

The Parent Music Association provides support to the musical directors, communication to parents, and musical experiences and opportunities to students at Shue-Medill.

How do I become a member?

Membership is free and open to parents and others in the Shue-Medill community who support the purpose of the association.

What does the PMA do?

Members of the PMA assist the directors by providing communication to parents about concerts and musical opportunities at Shue-Medill and beyond, produce programs for the concerts, handle uniform distribution, cleaning and storage, and assist with recording practices and concerts. The PMA also does a fundraiser to support the students in the music program with a free musical performance by an outside group and flowers for the directors and 8th grade students. The PMA supports music education in Christina by providing a portion of the funding for buses to bring 5th graders to Shue-Medill for a musical recruitment tour.

How can I help?

There are several ways that you can support music education at Shue-Medill.

  • Sign up for the e-mail notification that your student will bring home from their director the first week of school.
  • Attend the PMA general meeting on September 16th immediately following the Open House. Guaranteed to be short and to the point.
  • Volunteer for one of our open positions on the reverse side of this paper.
  • But, most importantly, encourage your child’s musical excitement and curiosity.
